Do you pay attention to the scents around you? Have you ever noticed that when you smell a scent in your immediate surroundings, you feel calm or relaxed? Scents can have a soothing effect not only on your mood, but also on many ailments. Discover the power of aromatherapy, one of the oldest fields of natural medicine, using the wealth of natural essential oils.

What is aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy - literally "smell therapy, scent treatment". It is based on the use of natural essential oils, from plants, to improve physical and mental health. The history of using essential oils for therapeutic purposes dates back to antiquity. Egyptians, Greeks and Romans used them to treat diseases, care for the body, and for religious and cultural purposes. Ancient Egyptian women rubbed their bodies with oils not only to smell sensual, but also to protect the skin from wind and sun.

Essential oils are a true treasure of nature. They are obtained from various parts of plants: leaves, flowers, roots or seeds. They give us what is most valuable: a concentrated wealth of natural compounds that protect the plant from diseases, viruses, harmful external factors.

How are essential oils extracted?

Remember the movie "Perfume"? The hero, gifted with a brilliant sense of smell, obsessively searches for the perfect scent. In the end, he manages to obtain a love elixir with which he enchants the world and gains power over people. Those who know the movie or the book know that this is not a movie about aromatherapy, but we recall it because it interestingly shows one of the methods of obtaining oils.

Essential oils are obtained by:

  • steam distillation, which involves passing steam through plant material, releasing essential oils, which then condense and separate from the water
  • solvent extraction – this method involves dissolving essential oils in an organic solvent such as ethanol, hexane or benzene. The solvent is then removed, leaving only the beneficial essential oils
  • cold pressing – a method used to obtain essential oils, e.g. from citrus peel. It involves mechanically pressing the plant to separate the essential oils from the peel or fruit.

What properties do essential oils have?

The ancients noticed that essential oils have a beneficial effect on our body and mind. Their therapeutic power is not only manifested in their scent. Thanks to their concentrated formula and the wealth of natural ingredients, they have a beneficial effect on the body and many ailments. Some have relaxing, tension-reducing properties; others have antibacterial properties and cope well with, for example, skin problems. Skillfully used in everyday care, they improve not only well-being, but also the overall condition and well-being of the body.

What essential oils to look for in cosmetics?

•             grapefruit oil – has antidepressant and calming effects, but also analgesic properties. In a balm or cream, it will additionally have antibacterial effects, so it will be useful in the care of acne and seborrheic skin

•             ylang ylang oil – it reduces tension and relieves stress, it is an excellent antioxidant for the skin due to its high terpenoid content. Additionally, it stimulates the senses, it is considered an aphrodisiac

•             tangerine oil – has a soothing effect on the nervous system, supports good sleep, and is a real antioxidant bomb for the skin. Fights signs of aging, brightens, firms – it is good to have it in the composition of your face and body cosmetics

•             bergamot oil – a real diamond in aromatherapy. It is used to relieve stress and improve mood, relieve tension, anxiety. And it works wonders on the skin: soothes irritations, softens, regulates sebum secretion

•             pine oil – do you remember the characteristic “pine cones” for bathing at grandma’s bathroom? The relaxing properties of this oil have been known for a long time, but this is not its main value. Pine oil has a warming effect, which relieves joint and muscle pain. It tones irritations on the skin, which is why this ingredient is also welcome, for example, in your body lotion

How to use the beneficial properties of essential oils?

3. inhalations

This is one of the easiest ways to enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy. All you need is a small diffuser or a simple aroma burner that will spray a therapeutic mist in your surroundings.

A new product has just appeared in our offer: Essential oil blend. This is an extraordinary composition of essential oils, which is an indirect effect of the production of our TOP Body Oil. Here you will find all the precious essential oils that are in the composition of Body Oil, i.e.: mandarin, niaouli, pine, ylang ylang, bergamot.

How to use it? Pour a small amount of water into the burner, then drip the entire pipette of oil onto the water. If the scent is too intense, you can reduce the amount of oil to half a pipette. If the scent is not noticeable enough, drip the oil directly into the burner, without using water.

 Summary

Essential oils are a true treasure that is worth using to the fullest. When choosing cosmetics for yourself, pay attention to whether they contain valuable oils.

Remember also that scent can improve mood or help concentration. Use home aromatherapy, because it is a great way to feel better while waiting for spring or support in preparation for a difficult exam.
